Relieving Pain.

Injection Therapy

Steroid injections can be used for the relief of pain and inflammation in your joints and soft tissue conditions, which can assist you in your rehabilitation and physiotherapy treatment.

Joint injections can help with painful conditions such as osteoarthritis, bursitis and tendinopathies. The reduction in swelling and inflammation can help improve function of the joint and in turn aid mobility.

Prior to your appointment, you will be emailed a questionnaire about you condition, which joint you would like to have injected and some further medical questions. Our specialist physiotherapist Annie Ray will review the questionnaire to make sure an injection is an appropriate treatment for you.

At your appointment, she will explain the procedure in full, advising of risk factors and advice for you to make an informed decision.

It is a quick and easy procedure and once the injection has been performed, she will then work with you to put together a rehabilitation programme to support your recovery.

A local anaesthetic is injected with the steroid and can help reduce pain within a few minutes. The steroid may take a couple of days to a week to take effect and it is advised to rest the area from strenuous exercise during this time but this will be discussed fully with you during the session. You may initially experience slight discomfort around the injection site but this usually settle within a couple of days.

Steroid injections last for around 3 months and tend to be used in conjunction with physiotherapy exercises for rehabilitation.
